SC02--Bloat is Not the G.O.A.T: Managing Digestion, Bloating & Constipation/DIOS

Although highly effective modulator therapy (HEMT) has changed the landscape of disease in CF, gastrointestinal (GI) manifestations continue to be burdensome to CF patients. We will discuss understanding symptoms and current therapies to manage GI symptoms including constipation/distal intestinal obstruction syndrome (DIOS) and bloating.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe available enzyme therapies (including dosing recommendations) used to treat pancreatic insufficiency in PwCF and discuss options available for both oral and enteral routes of nutrition.
  • To understand GI manifestations and management of CF including constipation, DIOS and GERD, including with use of HEMT.
  • Identify various physical therapy interventions for patients with lower gastroenterology diagnoses in CF and to identify basic pelvic floor anatomy and function.
