DG04--Ethics for Mental Health Practitioners

This discipline group session will explore ethical issues encountered by mental health practitioners, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. Other disciplines are encouraged to attend as well.

Themes of ethics and equity, research as related to ethics, and ethical concerns/dilemmas related to listing and lung transplantation, will be explored through didactic presentation, case examples and shared experiences from CF community members.

The ethical roles and responsibilities of mental health practitioners, working in the CF community, will be highlighted in the various discussions and dialogue.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify examples of ethics and equity and the impact on the cystic fibrosis care experience and ways for mental health practitioners to advocate in this area.
  • Review existing literature and research in the field of ethics and how this can apply to working with individuals with cystic fibrosis.
  • Name ways that mental health practitioners can address ethical dilemmas related to listing for transplantation.
