This Cutting-Edge Nutrition Topics session will look at the changing landscape of Cystic Fibrosis patient care and the need for practical strategies to help meet patient’s health and wellness goals. The session will discuss issues surrounding gender-affirming care, weight inclusivity, and CF pregnancies. We will build on previous weight neutrality presentations, discuss the challenges and where we go from here. We will review nutrition guidelines, recommendations, and therapies for CF pregnant patients including lactation, gestational diabetes, and preexisting CF-related diabetes. Finally, the session will present the perspective and experience of an LGBTQ+ person living with Cystic Fibrosis, and discuss the emotional, physical, and mental impact of seeking gender-affirming care.

Learning Objectives:

  • State at least three practical practice strategies for weight inclusive care while practicing weight centric model and learn how to develop goal consensus in collaboration with clients using self acceptance based approaches to meet clients' health and wellness goals.
  • Review and discuss nutrition guidelines for pregnant and lactating women with Cystic Fibrosis, as well as recommendations and therapies for pregnant women with Cystic Fibrosis diagnosed with gestantional diabetes with and without pre-existing CF related Diabetes.
  • Discuss body image along with the emotional, physical, and mental impact of Cystic Fibrosis in LGBTQ+ people seeking gender affirming care.
