Sardar Karash biography
Sardar Karash is a senior postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington. His research in the Singh lab focuses on the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance within the lungs of people with cystic fibrosis. Leveraging his expertise in bacterial genetics and genomics, gained during his graduate studies and first postdoctoral training at the University of Iowa, he aims to elucidate how bacteria interact and evolve within the lungs of pwCF to resist antibiotic treatments. Supported by a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation postdoctoral fellowship, his research has led to the discovery that CF pathogens can interact within the lungs and transfer resistance plasmids among antibiotic-sensitive bacteria, leading to the rapid development of extreme resistance.
