Eryn Zuiker graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2020 where she completed undergraduate research project in Dr. Michael Bentley’s Lab evaluating the biocompatibility of 3D-printed metal alloy implants. During a summer undergraduate research fellowship, Eryn worked on a project involving hydrogels with tissue engineering applications in Dr. Lichun Lu’s lab at Mayo Clinic, which resulted in a co-authorship for a paper published in Materials Science and Engineering. After completing her Bachelor’s, Eryn volunteered for Dr. Ajay Israni at Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute on a clinical trial comparing patient decision-making resources in solid organ transplantation. Eryn matriculated into the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program (BSGP) at The Ohio State University (OSU) in June of 2021 and officially joined Matthew Long’s lab in January 2022 to study host-pathogen interactions in Cystic Fibrosis. Eryn is currently a PhD candidate and 4th year student in BSGP. Her work is currently focused on understanding the antibacterial effects of a mammalian MEK1/2 inhibitor compound on clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus isolates obtained from people with cystic fibrosis. Eryn has presented her work at the 2022 and 2023 North American Cystic Fibrosis Conferences and 2023 Gordon Research Seminar on Staphylococcal Diseases. Eryn was awarded a Cure CF Columbus training grant, and recently was appointed to the OSU Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s Predoctoral T32 Award.
