Gina Hong, M.D., M.H.S. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine and Associate Program Director of the Penn Adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Program. She obtained her Master of Health Science from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her investigator-initiated research is focused on translational studies evaluating the detection and impact of fungi in CF. She is NIH and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-funded to study selective fungal culture media and metagenomic diagnostics for the detection of Aspergillus fumigatus in CF sputa and investigate the association between fungal diagnoses and clinical outcomes. She is focused on novel respiratory sampling methods, including remote sputum collection, for the detection of CF pathogens. With her expertise in fungal infection, she has contributed to international guidelines, chaired workshops, and steering committees.
