CJ Bathgate, PhD is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Clinical Health Psychologist at National Jewish Health’s adult cystic fibrosis center in Denver, CO. She is the Vice Chair of the CFF’s multidisciplinary mental health working group, “Prioritizing Research in Mental Health” (PRIME), which aims to advance the knowledge of mental health conditions in CF throughout the lifespan, and promote clinical and translational research that will improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health complications of CF.
Dr. Bathgate is a member of the NACFC Psychosocial Planning Committee and cross-collaborates with the European Cystic Fibrosis Society’s mental health working group and CFF’s Mental Health Advisory Committee. She is the developer and lead PI of the multisite randomized controlled trial, “Coping and Learning to Manage Stress with CF” (CALM), which uses six telehealth sessions to teach stress management skills aimed at decreasing anxiety, depression, and stress while improving coping skills and quality of life in adults with CF.
Additional clinical and research interests include creating innovative ways to facilitate health and behavior changes, coping with chronic disease progression and role transitions, and enhancing quality of life by improving stress management, communication, mood, and sleep. In addition to Dr. Bathgate’s scientific publications, she has also been recognized as an expert mental health contributor in articles featured on Forbes health, CNN health news, and the Huffington Post.
