Dr. Marianne Muhlebach, MD is Professor, and Associate Fellowship Director Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She obtained her Medical Degree at the University of Vienna, Austria. Subsequent work and training took her to Switzerland where she also completed a doctoral thesis on "Scheduled Antibiotic Therapy in Patients with CF". She completed her Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she has continued as Faculty.
Dr. Muhlebach’s current research focuses on cystic fibrosis microbiology, use of antimicrobials and infection control. Dr. Muhlebach has been Principal investigator in several CFF funded multi-center studies related to MRSA epidemiology and treatment. She studied molecular epidemiology and clinical outcomes in children with CF, and then lead the first interventional, randomized controlled trial for early MRSA eradication in pwCF. Currently she is conducting a follow-up, multi-center study to define best treatment strategy for incident MRSA infection. Additionally, she is studying infection epidemiology and use of inhaled antibiotics using CF patient registry data.
Dr Muhlebach is a member of the European Respiratory Society, American Thoracic Society and the European CF Society. She has given conference and invited presentations at international meetings and national academic institutions.
