RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
I started my career at the University of Chieti (Italy), where I contributed to research projects aimed at dissecting the
role of platelets and leukocytes in the resolution of inflammation in cystic fibrosis (FASEB J. 2010 as first author, Mol
Biosyst 2011, FASEB J. 2012). I also collaborated with investigators from national and international institutions to
identify key factors contributing to cardiovascular complications in hematologic neoplasms (Blood 2008, Blood 2010, J
Thromb Haemost 2012).
To strengthen my knowledge and training, in 2011 I moved at IEO (Milan, Italy), an internationally recognized
institution for cancer diagnosis and research. Here, I deepened my studies on cancer by investigating the role of posttranslational
modifications during tumorigenesis (Ecancermedicalscience 2015 as first author, PLoS Pathog 2017 as
first author, PNAS 2013).
In 2016, I moved back to the University of Chieti in the Unit of Experimental and Translational Pharmacology of
Resolution at the Center for Advanced Studies and Technologies (www.cast.unich.it/en/). Here I worked on projects
focused on the bioactions of RvD on immune cells in cystic fibrosis (Mucosal Immunol 2018, Front Immunol 2020 as cofirst
and co-corresponding author, FASEB J. 2021), and in tumorigenesis (J Exp Clin Cancer Res, 2021; IJMS, 2022 as first
and co-corresponding author). These works give me the opportunity to obtain my own funds to start my career as
independent investigator (Fondazione Fibrosi Cistica 2022, My First Airc Grant 2023) aimed to characterize how the
activities of immune cells are altered in chronic inflammatory disorders, such as cystic fibrosis and cancer, and to
investigate innovative strategies to restore unbalanced immunity. To this aim, my group (Inflammation and Immunity
Unit) integrate advanced approaches, ranging from in vitro to in vivo and patient-derived pre-clinical models of
diseases, coupled with bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing, multiparametric flow cytometry and mass, spectrometry,
to dissect how unrelenting inflammation impacts on immunity.
