Dr Gianfranco Alicandro is an assistant professor of medical statistics at the University of Milan, with a background in nutrition and dietetics, and over 15 years of experience in the analysis of biomedical data. His research training began in 2008 at the cystic fibrosis center in Milan — one of Italy’s largest cystic fibrosis centers — where he was introduced to clinical research. During this period, he developed a strong interest in clinical studies methodology and medical statistics, coordinating several clinical studies, including observational studies and clinical trials in cystic fibrosis. In late 2012, he joined the National Institute of Statistics (Istat) in Rome, where his research centered on cause-specific mortality, mortality trends and socioeconomic determinants of health. In 2019, he earned his PhD in Epidemiology, and in 2020, he began his academic career as researcher in medical statistics at the University of Milan. His work continues to focus on cystic fibrosis, mortality, and health disparities, where he is dedicated to research on cystic fibrosis, mortality and health disparities.
Throughout his career, Dr. Alicandro has published 125 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
