I am honoured and grateful to have the opportunity to be at the NACFC this year. From a young age, the world of medicine has fascinated me. Originally from Iran, my family and I immigrated to Canada when I was young, settling in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This city has been my home ever since, nurturing my ambitions and aspirations. Family influences and personal interests sparked an early passion for the medical field within me. However, it was the heartbreaking loss of my grandfather that transformed this interest into a determined resolve to make a difference in healthcare. My undergraduate years were a rollercoaster, marked by the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic stripped away the chance to engage in hands-on laboratory work, leaving a void in my educational experience. However, in my third year, I was fortunate to cross paths with Dr. Ianowski, who was my professor and later became my supervisor. This meeting marked a pivotal turning point in my academic journey. In my fourth year, I decided to undertake an honours project under Dr. Ianowski's supervision. This turned out to be the best decision I have made. It allowed me to gain a comprehensive understanding of what research entails, and it became evident to me that this is the path I want to pursue in the future. Under Dr. Ianowski's guidance, I have been able to explore the field of Cystic Fibrosis research and develop skills that have allowed me to grow not only as a researcher but also as a person. I have contributed to various projects in our lab, striving to expand our knowledge and fill in the gaps regarding Cystic Fibrosis as a disease. In the end, it is so intriguing to understand how human anatomy and physiology function but more intriguing to know how much more there is to still be learned. My journey has been anything but conventional, shaped by resilience and a relentless drive to overcome obstacles. The experiences I've gained and the knowledge I've acquired have solidified my commitment to advancing the field of Cystic Fibrosis research. My story is one of passion, perseverance, and an unyielding belief in the power of science to change lives.
