University of Dundee
Hannah Donnelly, Ph.D. is a postdoctoral researcher in the Megan Bergkessel group, part of the Molecular Microbiology division at the University of Dundee, Scotland, UK. Dr. Donnelly earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the same division, where she focused on the regulation of Type VI Secretion Systems.
The Bergkessel group's primary research interest is understanding how bacteria, particularly the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa, regulate their activities under conditions that prevent active growth. Non-growing bacteria are typically tolerant of antibiotics, and the regulation of their activities remains poorly understood.
Currently, Dr. Donnelly is working on a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation grant that leverages the expertise of both the Bergkessel group, specializing in bacterial dormancy, and the Hunter group at the University of Minnesota, focusing on host-microbe interactions and model development. The aim of this project is to develop new compounds targeting Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections by using screening conditions relevant to the lungs of individuals with cystic fibrosis.
