Lund University
I, Anders Wittrup, MD, PhD and Assistant Professor at Lund University, Specialist in Clinical Oncology (Neuro-oncology) head a lab at Lund University focusing on RNA Therapeutics in Cancer. I have a medical doctor degree since 2010 and I am licensed to practice medicine since 2014 and specialist degree in clinical oncology since 2023 with sub-specialization in neuro-oncology. I performed my PhD-thesis work in the lab of Mattias Belting at Lund University studying endocytosis mechanisms of large, charged macromolecules and in particular nucleic acids, graduating in 2009. I commenced my focus on the question endosomal escape during my post-doc in the lab of Judy Lieberman at Harvard Medical School in Boston in 2012-2014. During this time, like now, the question of endosomal escape and our lack of tools to study it was central within the field of RNA therapeutics. During my postdoc period I developed a novel confocal microscopy based imaging technique to visualize endosomal escape. I also discovered galectins as sensors for endosomal escape of RNA therapeutics. I have since starting my own lab at Lund University in 2017 continued my focus on endosomal escape and we have developed several new techniques (both for detection and improvement) and are one of the leading lab for live-cell detection and visualization of endosomal escape.
