Rafael E. Hernandez, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor and Attending Physician in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital in Seattle, Washington. He works closely with the Seattle Children’s Cystic Fibrosis Center to provide cooperative infectious disease care for patients with complex infections, including nontuberculous mycobacteria and multidrug resistant organisms. Dr. Hernandez also leads a laboratory based research program focused on developing better treatments for bacterial infections in persons with cystic fibrosis, with a special emphasis on nontuberculous mycobacterial infections. Dr. Hernandez participates in both local and multisite clinical studies to understand how COVID-19 has impacted persons with CF.
