Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU
Catherine Van Drew, Doctor of Physical Therapy, ABPTS Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy, active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, clinical level IV physical therapist at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCUHealth. Dr. Van Drew graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2004 and joined the acute care physical therapy team at VCU Health, a level one trauma center, upon graduation. She has worked with both children and adults with CF in the inpatient and cardiopulmonary rehab settings for nearly 20 years. Her experience in the acute care setting is quite varied however, and also includes neonatal ICU, pediatric ICU, trauma, hematology/oncology, cardiology and cardiac surgery, pulmonary, neurology and orthopedics. Dr. Van Drew has been involved in developmental research both as an interventionist and as an assessor for multiple randomized controlled trials in both the acute care and early Intervention settings. She has co-authored many peer-reviewed publications related to infant development and parent education. Cathy has provided PT services and thorough developmental assessment in NICU follow-up clinic for 17 years. She joined the CF care center team in 2022 via the CFF grant for physical therapy and began providing PT services in the CF clinic in 2022. She completed the CFF physical therapy apprenticeship program in 2023/24. She serves as a mentor in VCU's pediatric PT residency program, has served as the team lead for her acute care pediatric PT team and leads the developmental care committee at VCU.
