Michelle L. Hastings, PhD, is the Pfizer Upjohn Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan Medical School, Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the College of Pharmacy and Director of the M-RNA Therapeutics Initiative in the Center for RNA Biomedicine. Dr. Hastings received her PhD from Marquette University, trained as a post-doctoral fellow at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and was Professor and Director of the Center for Genetic Diseases at the Chicago Medical School, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science before joining the University of Michigan in 2023. Research in her lab focuses on understanding the genetic and molecular basis of disease and discovering therapeutics based on targeting or utilizing RNA. Work in her lab has resulted in the discovery of new treatment strategies using splice-switching antisense oligonucleotides (ASO) for diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Usher syndrome, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Batten disease. Dr. Hastings is a member of numerous editorial and scientific advisory boards and committed to the advancement of science through her work with scientific societies. Dr. Hastings is passionate about education and training and dedicated to increasing diversity in the STEM fields.
