Lynne Fries PA-C, MPAS, DPT, AE-C is affiliated with the Cystic Fibrosis Center of Western New York Adult program.
She started her professional career as a physical therapist, graduating from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She completed a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Professions. Her career as a physical therapist included inpatient care, outpatient private practice and administrative duties. She has instructed in the physical therapy curriculum of SUNY Buffalo and as part time faculty at Georgia State and Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Following practice as a physical therapist, Dr. Fries pursued training as a physician assistant through D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York. She then obtained a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Science with emphasis in internal medicine from the University of Nebraska as well as a Health Sciences Teaching Certificate from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Professions. In addition to her duties with the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program, she also continues to work in outpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Fries initially became involved with Cystic Fibrosis care as a component of her position in Adult Medicine coverage at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. In 2007, she was asked to join what is now UBMD to work directly with the Adult Cystic Fibrosis program and eventually became Program Coordinator. Lynne has had the opportunity to work in both inpatient and outpatient Cystic Fibrosis care. She has been involved in CF Learning Network and program development such as working with the CF Foundation to develop use of Advanced Practice Providers in CF care, pilot the mentoring program for APN/PA, which has evolved into LEAPP educational initiative for APPs. In 2023, she served as a Reviewer for LEAPP Program candidates. She has also had to opportunity to work with Beth Smith MD to develop guidelines for depression and anxiety screening in the CF population as well as participating in research and NACFC presentations on mental health in CF.
