Antoinette Moran MD, Professor of Pediatrics, University of Minnesota.
Dr. Moran has extensive experience in diabetes clinical research and has been continuously funded since 1987 by the NIH, foundations and industry. She has more than 200 peer-reviewed publications. In type 1 diabetes (TID), she has been a PI and Steering Committee member for TrialNet since 2004, and has helped develop, conduct, and lead several multicenter trials to prevent or ameliorate new onset TID. In cystic fibrosis related diabetes (CFRD), she has conducted extensive studies of islet function, insulin resistance, protein and lipid turnover, epidemiology, prognosis, and treatment, including initiating and leading an NIH-funded international multicenter intervention trial. Her work in CFRD resulted in her being named the first annual recipient of the CF Foundation’s Richard C. Talamo Distinguished Clinical Achievement Award, for “research contributions that have had significant influence on the course of the disease". She has a current NIH R01 grant entitled “DAYTime: Diabetes in African Youth: Improving Glucose Time-In-Range”. This project builds on workshe has been doing in East Africa since 2007. She initiated the EnVision-CF program, funded by the CF Foundation and now in its thrid 3-year cycle, to mentor the next generation of endocrine leaders and researchers with a focus on CF endocrinopathy. Of the 36 pediatric and adult endocrinologists from around the country who have thus far participated in the program, the majority remain engaged in CF endocrine research. She has served as research mentor for multiple undergraduates, medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty. In her role as Vice Chair for Faculty Development, she regularly mentors faculty members.
