Jefferson Adult CF Center
I am Mary Hendry, RN, MS, Nurse Coordinator for Jefferson Health Cystic Fibrosis, Adult Care team . I am a Diploma RN (Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing) , who completed my BSN (LaSalle University) and then my MS in Clinical Research Organization and Management (Drexel). My first exposure with Cystic Fibrosis affected persons, was as a pediatric Nursing Student in Camden, NJ. As a young adult I transitioned from Medical Surgical Nurse Manager to a large inner city hospital in Philadelphia, Hahnemann University Hospital. There I worked for 17 years in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), where I again cared for persons affected by Cystic Fibrosis. From the MICU I transitioned to Clinical Research Coordinator at Drexel University.
While at Drexel, I was asked to join the Cystic Fibrosis Care team, who had transitioned from Medical College of Pennsylvania to Drexel. I served as the Nurse Coordinator of the CF group at Drexel for 15 years, when we were forced to move after Hahnemann (our associate hospital) closed in bankruptcy.
In December 2019, Dr Michael Stephen and Dr Jeffrey Hoag and our team transitioned all of our patients to Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. We transitioned a CF population of 100 clients and we are now just over 100 patients and growing. We transition young adults diagnosed with CF coordinating with the CF Care Teams at St Christopher's Childrens Hospital in Philadelphia,PA, Lehigh Valley Peds in Allentown, PA, and Nemours Childrens Hospital in Wilmington, DE.
With just over 15 years as a CF coordinator, I am honored to remain part of this dedicated community of professionals, patients and the CF Foundation.
