Susanna A. McColley, MD, FAAP, ATSF is Scientific Director for Interdisciplinary Research Partnerships at Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute, Attending Physician and co-Principal Investigator of the Pediatric CF Therapeutics Development Center at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and Professor of Pediatrics, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her research portfolio includes epidemiology, observational studies, and interventional studies for diagnostics and therapeutics. After decades of research describing health disparities, her research and education goals are directed towards improving health equity, emphasizing improving timeliness and equity of CF diagnosis through improvements in newborn screening and follow-up. She and her team collaborate with and engage public health professionals, primary care and CF clinicians, and community-serving organizatoins to apply research findings to improving practice, education, and awareness to overcome the complex issues that delay diagnosis so that every person with CF can have the best possible health outcomes. Essential to health equity efforts are her roles in education, training, and career development that emphasize equitable design and conduct of research and workforce inclusive excellence. She directs a graduate school course on antiracist research design and co-leads NIH-funded postdoctoral training and early career development programs. Her work is funded by the Rosenau Family Research Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the National Institutes of Health (NCATS, NCI), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Chronic Disease Education and Awareness program.
