Shontae Hill is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Certified Asthma Educator. She works in the Pulmonary Outpatient Clinic at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City Utah. Shontae has been a Registered Respiratory Therapist since 2001, she joined Primary Children's Cystic Fibrosis Center in 2011, an a Certified Asthma Educator since 2014. She is the Lead Registered Respiratory Therapist in the Pulmonary Function Lab, working with pediatric patients of all pulmonary disease processes, including cystic fibrosis in the hospital and outpatient setting. Shontae performs pulmonary function testing on pulmonary and cystic fibrosis patients, ages three and older until they transition to adult pulmonary care between age 18 and 19. She also educates pulmonary and cystic fibrosis patients and families on all respiratory treatments that help them to stay as "respiratory" healthy as possible. This includes all forms of airway clearance, aerosol administration, cleaning and disinfecting all aerosol equipment, and patients' Annual Respiratory Assessments. About every six to eight weeks, she also teaches a two-hour class for new inpatient respiratory therapists at Primary Children's Hospital, focusing on cystic fibrosis respiratory care and emphasizing the importance of their role during a cystic fibrosis patient's hospitalization. Shontae is also part of a highly motivated quality improvement cystic fibrosis team, which inspires her to continue to look for ways to improve patient care. In addition, she has led the training of six respiratory therapists for the Pulmonary Function Lab over the past four years, guiding them to be competent in pediatric pulmonary function testing and respiratory education in the outpatient clinic setting. Shontae likes her role, working with pediatric patients as a respiratory therapist, because she finds it rewarding to build a rapport with so many patients and families each day at work. In her free time, Shontae enjoys spending time with her elementary-age son and daughter, her Ragdoll cat Tinkerbell, and her Boxer dog, Roxy, playing piano, hiking, swimming, sledding, and almost any activity to get some vitamin D.
