Nationwide Children's Hospital
Raul Rascon MS is a scientist from the University of Sonora in Mexico doing translational research at the Abigail Wexner Institute at the Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
He started his chemistry-biology career focused on immunology by studying the cellular and humoral response to parasitic proteins in mucosal tissue. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked as a laboratory professional and became increasingly interested in the exaggerated immune response that leads to lung damage. This experience motivated him to resume the academic pathway to study the role of the immune system in cystic fibrosis pathology. His work in cystic fibrosis has primarily focused on understanding the underlying mechanisms of modulator therapy on the immune response against bacteria from both inflammatory and biochemical perspectives. In the future, he aims to improve the availability of treatment and diagnosis options for cystic fibrosis in regions and countries where it is not widely recognized.
