Don Hayes, Jr, MD, MS, MEd, MBA is the Medical Director of the Lung Transplant Program and Co-Director of the Lung Failure Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He is a Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky and then completed a combined internal medicine and pediatric residency at East Carolina University. He then completed a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Maternal Child Health Bureau funded fellowship in pediatric pulmonary medicine and a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation funded fellowship in adult pulmonary disease at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. During his fellowship, Dr. Hayes concentrated his training in areas of advanced lung disease, lung transplantation, and bronchoscopy. He leads a Lung Immunology Research Program that studies both innate and adaptive lung immunity in cystic fibrosis and lung transplantation. He serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and is a section editor for the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
