Susanne’ Muenzel (pronounced Su-zahn-nA MUN-zell) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker currently working in the CF Center at Augusta University Medical Center. Susanne’ received her Master’s in Social Work in 2010 from Georgia State University. Susanne’ obtained her Bachelor’s in Human Relations which included counseling and social work from Atlanta Christian College in 2007 (now Point University). She has been working at Augusta University Medical Center since September 2012 and worked at the Department of Family and Children Services from June 2010 until transitioning to the hospital (in both DeKalb and Richmond Counties).
Susanne’ has a special interest in childhood development in pediatric patients with cystic fibrosis; especially in relation to children with CF compared to the healthy population, and in improving adherence to medical care. Susanne’ has spoken at the North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference on several topics including: More Than CPS, Resources to Navigate Insurance Issues, The Never Ending Balancing Act, Culturally Competent CF Care, Food Insecurity, Self-Care for the Chronic Care Practitioner, Medical Neglect, Collaborating with the Multi-disciplinary Team, End of Life Care: To Transplant or Not?, and Legal and Ethical Issues within CF Care. Susanne’ has also lead discussions at the Dietitian and Social Work Consortium’s on topics including: Integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Developing an IEP/504 Plan, and presented on Addressing Feeding Behavioral Issues.
Susanne’ is the proud recipient of the Shining Star Award (2019). Susanne’ has also traveled around the world working with different cultures and people groups in Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Germany, and Kenya.
Susanne’ has a drive to meet patients and families where they are, to identify needs, put in resources, and develop skills to help strengthen the family unit. Susanne’ strives to make a difference every day. Susanne’ frequently thinks of the famous quote: “Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person”.
Other hobbies include playing soccer and drinking coffee… which is why she worked at Starbucks for 16 years. ;)
