The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)
Dr Valerie Waters is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto. She has been a full time staff physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases since 2005. She is the infectious diseases consultant for the cystic fibrosis (CF) clinic at the Hospital for Sick Children and St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto. She is also Senior Associate Scientist with the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children.
Dr Waters received her MD from McGill University, Montreal, did her pediatric residency at the Hospital for Sick Children and her infectious diseases fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, New York. She also obtained a MSc in biostatistics from Columbia University, New York. Dr Waters’ primary research focus is the diagnosis and management of multi-drug resistant pathogens in CF and biofilm antimicrobial susceptibility testing. She also studies the clinical impact of pulmonary exacerbations in CF and the role of the pulmonary microbiome in CF. She is the principal investigator for a multi-center randomized, double blind controlled trial of prednisone in the treatment of pulmonary exacerbations in CF.
