UT Southwestern Adult Cystic Fibrosis & Bronchiectasis Clinic
Reema Poonawala, BS, RRT began her role as a clinic respiratory therapist at the Cystic Fibrosis & Bronchiectasis Clinic at UT Southwestern in 2018. After completing her degree in respiratory care in 2010, she started her career in Houston before moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Having worked in a variety of clinical settings in her 14 year career, she developed a passion for patient education. Prior to her working in CF, she advocated for and helped set up respiratory therapist driven protocols for COPD and asthma education. Using that background, she is able to work with patients as they try to navigate a more normal life after starting modulator therapy. She strives to create accessibility for patients to get the information they need and tools they can use to manage their respiratory care better. Reema was instrumental in developing the infection control process that was put in place to avoid clinic disruption and prioritize staff safety in the early months of COVID-19.
Reema was nominated as an honoree in this year's CFF DFW's Finest event, which took place last week.
