This session will be of interest to basic and clinical researchers as well as the wider CF audience. Inflammation remains a major feature of CF lung disease and may provide an additional treatment target both for those able and not able to take CFTR modulators. The cause and effects of inflammation in CF, particularly in the lung, are not fully understood and as such the work presented this session will cover key aspects of the immune system and address how specific infections, and the CF lung environment, may contribute to the inflammatory process.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the main immune cell types involved in inflammation in CF and how they may affect inflammation.
  • Identify the impact of nature (CFTR mutations) and nurture (the CF lung environment) on CF inflammation.
  • Examine novel approaches to the treatment of inflammation in CF and the scientific basis of these interventions.
