Burnout is a work-related syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, reduced personal accomplishment and fulfillment, and empathy. Healthcare providers are at particularly high risk for burnout, with studies reporting that more than half of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals experience significant burnout. This symposium follows up on last year’s Plenary III on mental health and features an international speaker, Dr. Neha Sangwan, who is a physician herself and has published extensively on burnout. Dr. Sangwan will share her experiences of burnout and provide specific suggestions for self-care. Results of a recent national survey on provider burnout in the CF community will be presented, as well as two Quality Improvement Projects from CF centers as examples of ways to address the well-being of our care teams.
