LL15--Athletes with CF: Pairing Exercise & Nutrition Through the Years

In the era of highly effective modulator therapies, the fields of exercise and nutrition have garnered increased momentum, as more people with cystic fibrosis are exploring exercise, recreational activities, and organized sports. This lecture will explore the nutritional needs and exercise considerations for people with cystic fibrosis participating in sports from the little leaguer and weekend warrior to the high school and more competitive college athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and older adults. Participants will hear from a diverse panel of speakers to gain a better understanding of the nutritional demands and exercise recommendations for people with cystic fibrosis at various fitness levels throughout the lifespan.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the nutritional demands and considerations for people with CF of all ages who participate in exercise.
  • Describe exercise recommendations for people with CF of all ages who are participating in activities ranging from recreational exercise to competitive sports.
  • Analyze the nutritional demands and implications of competitive running from the perspective of an individual with CF training to run their first half marathon.
