SPC02--PM: Parenting Strategies for Adults with CF Who are Parenting & Parents of Children with CF: Promoting Access to Parent Management Training Strategies

This special class is designed for CF healthcare providers of any discipline who are interested in learning strategies to support parents through parenting techniques that increase parental effectiveness, improve parent/child relationship, and address both common and concerning child behaviors. This session will focus on an introduction to Parent Management Training (PMT), an evidence-based parenting intervention, and will address how PMT can be used to promote healthy attachment and address child behaviors that can put stress on the parent-child relationship. Participants may register for the afternoon session, the morning session, or both sessions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss how parenting while living with CF or parenting a child with CF can create unique challenges and impact parent/child relationships, parenting confidence and CF-related health behaviors.
  • Describe the research supporting and the skills addressed in an evidence-based parenting intervention, Parent Management Training.
  • Practice using the essential elements of Parent Management Training to promote audience understanding and increase confidence in being able to utilize PMT skills in real world settings by providers with unique health care roles.
